Here in Melbourne we have officially started Silly Season. It begins with the Spring Racing Carnival and doesn't really end until January.
Living close to the hallowed grounds of Flemington, home of the Melbourne Cup, it has been nothing short of chaotic in and around our area. Racegoers dressed to the nines, helicopters, limousines and more VIP's than you could poke a stick at.
Even school activities are Cup themed. Our youngest has been making racehorses in class, and the oldest has joined the class sweep.
At home it has been a little more low key. Having been away we have avoided most of the craziness, but returned in time for Cup Day.
Close friends invited us over for the most wonderful afternoon celebration, much better than attending the actual race I think. Adults and kids alike took part in our mini sweep (which Ben won!), and we all watched the race , volume cranked up, sipping on a celebratory glass of Champagne.
And the best bit? The Cup Cake. Ros outdid everyone with her wonderful interpretation of Flemington Racecourse. Cheers Ros!
